Rome - We have arrived

The flight from Zurich was just over an hour long and on reaching Rome we begin Phase 2 of the holiday. As we had received reports of a potential rail strike in Rome we were relieved to find that the Leonardo express from the airport to the city was still running.

We towed the bags to the Hotel Welrome in Via Calatafimi, just a short walk from the main station (Termini) and were warmly greeted by Carlo whom we remember so well from our 2009 visit. Carlo is an enthusiastic explainer of the sights and history of his beloved Rome and he has a library of resources on hand to illustrate his explanations. We discussed walking routes and visiting options before going to nearby Babbo's for a small pizza and salad supper.

We are looking forward to meeting Mary,the manager, in the morning.

After 40 months we are back in Rome again and looking forward to seeing more of this chaotic, historic and always astounding city.
