Paris - getting around

We are not wasting any time during our 4 days and have seen so much already. Yesterday (Tuesday 1/1/13) we walked around many of the landmarks including Opera, the Madeleine, the grounds of the Louvre (image 1), les Halles and so on. After a concert we had Moules and Frites at a bistro near the Louvre. We had an unusual "conversation" with the elderly French lady at the table beside ours. She spoke no English and our French is limited to a few courtesies. There was an unexplained rapport and she gave us her card - she is an artist with a web site. See image 2: Judy and Anne Francoise Couloumy.

Today we caught the fast TGV non-stop to Reims where we toured the Taittinger champagne cellars, many of which follow tunnels dug by Romans and later medieval monks extracting chalk. Also went into a huge cathedral used for coronations for some 300 years. We also went to the room in General Eisenhower's HQ where the German armed forces surrendered to the allies in WW2. We've had 3 packed days here. Also had some wonderful meals of local specialities.
